2020 3A Regional Semi-Final Washington vs Salem Recap & Photo Gallery

The second Sweet Sixteen matchup of the 3A Charlestown Regional Semi-Final pitted the #1 Salem Lions against the #12 Washington Hatchets. Salem was the defending Regional champs returning to the 3A Regional for the third straight year, while the Hatchets were in their first Regional since 2004.

Washington would carry the lead for the first half of the opening quarter before Salem took an 8-7 lead that they would not relinquish. The Lions would end the quarter on a 11-2 run and hold a 16-7 advantage after one frame. That lead would grow 29-14 at the half. Senior Hope Tomlinson fired in 11 first half points for Salem, while sophomore Alaina Thorne paced Washington with 6 points. The Hatchets would pull within 10 points at the five-minute mark of the third but Salem would closeout the quarter on 10-4 run to take a comfortable 44-28 lead into the final eight minutes of the contest. The Lions advantage would be as large as 18 and as close as 11 in the final quarter before they would closeout the semi-final game with a 62-48 win to advance to the Elite 8.

The Lions were led by senior sharpshooter Hope Tomlinson with 16 points and junior guard Natalie Noel added 12. The Hatchets got 13 points from sophomore athletic frontliner Alaina Thorne.
