2020 3A Regional Semi-Final Greensburg v Evansville Memorial Recap & Photo Gallery

The first matchup of the Charlestown 3A Regional featured the #3 Evansville Memorial Tigers (23-3) against the #8 Greensburg Pirates (23-3). The Pirates were returning to the Regional for the third straight year, which included a 2018 Elite 8 win against the Tigers on their to a state runner-up finish.

Greensburg would get out early behind the play of their senior star Allyah Evans and controlled most of the quarter before running into a dry spell the last two minutes of the quarter that allowed Evansville Memorial to take a 12-11 lead at the end of the first frame. The fouls started to pile up as Wilkison, West, Lensing, and Murphy all would pick up their second fouls before the three-minute mark of the second. Greensburg would end the half on a 8-0 run and take a 33-25 advantage to the locker room. Evans led the Pirates with 15 first half points while Russell had 10 for Evansville Memorial. The run and lead world grow to 13 early in the third before the Tigers would respond with a 9-2 run of their own to get back within 40-34. Evansville Memorial would keep the momentum and tie it at 43-43 with 2:15 left in the quarter behind the hot shooting of senior Mallory Russell. Evansville Memorial would end with a 24 point quarter and a two point advantage going into the final eight minutes of play. The final frame would be a back in forth affair with multiple lead changes and the Tigers holding on to a slim one point lead with 2:15 left. From there Greensburg would close out the game on a 9-2 run to win the Sweet 16 matchup 69-63.

Greensburg was led by Allyah Evans with 26 points and got big minutes off the bench from post Anna West which included 11 points. Memorial got a career high 20 points from senior Mallory Russell who came into the game averaging 4.8PPG, junior Peyton Murphy added 17.
