2019-20 HSE vs Carroll Recap & Photo Gallery

The Hamilton Southeastern Royals entered the contest 4-1 and ranked #12 in the IGBRR 4A poll, while Carroll was unbeaten at 4-0 and had just cracked the top 20 in the latest release. Carroll was also undefeated going into last year’s contest when they took a 40 point drubbing on their home court to the eventual state champion Royals. The Chargers would try to get even and take advantage of a Royals team that is still trying to learn to play without the significant graduation losses from last year’s squad.

The Chargers would get the first points of the game, however that would be their last lead of the contest. Miss Basketball candidate Sydney Parrish scored 8 points in the opening frame leading her Royals to 15-11 lead at the first break. She would equal that in the second quarter as well on her way to 16 first half points, pushing the HSE lead to 31-22 at the half. Carroll’s first half bright spot was the athletic post play of sophomore Jasmine Anderson who kept her team within striking distance with 10 of her team high 15 coming in the opening two quarters. Eight was the lucky number for Parrish on Saturday, with another 8 spot in the third quarter. The Royals pushed their lead to 19 points before Carroll ended the frame with the final five points trailing 45-31 going into the final quarter. Carroll would get it back to a 10 point game, before HSE would close out the game on 10-3 run closing out the matinee with a 57-40 home win against the #20 Carroll Chargers. HSE was led by senior Sydney Parrish’s game high 26 points, with fellow senior Jackie Maulucci netting 14. Also to be noted was the energy and feisty play of senior Bailee Poore. The Chargers were led by sophomore Jasmine Anderson team high 14 points, while junior guard Emily Parrett added 13 points.

Even with the graduations the Royals continue to be an elite level team with the senior backcourt of Parrish and Maulucci but as former reserves get more experience( Hinshaw, Morris, Poore, Viele) and a promising freshman class develops (Makalusky, Stewart, Brown) the Royals will be a more experienced team come the second half. The Chargers have a promising lineup that includes Anderson, Parrett and Sheets and will win their fair share of games. They too have a talented freshman class (Fordyce, S.Jackson, N.Jackson) that should become important contributors sooner than later.

Carroll (4-1) will travel to take on East Noble (2-3) on Monday before taking off the rest of the week. HSE (5-1) will travel to Brownsburg (6-1) for a huge conference matchup on Tuesday before hosting the Carmel Greyhounds (2-2) on Friday.

HSE (57): Parrish (26), Maulucci (14), Viele (6), Hinshaw (4), Morris (3), Poore (2), Stewart (2)

Carroll (40): Anderson (15), Parrett (13), Williams (6), Jackson (3), Sheets (2), Hoeppner (1)
