2019-20 Carmel vs Northwestern Recap & Photo Gallery

Two top twenty IGBRR 4A teams met on Saturday afternoon as the two time defending 3A state champs & 4A #4 Northwestern Tigers traveled to take on the #13 Carmel Greyhounds. The Greyhounds raced out to a 15-6 lead late in the first quarter and were in control of the early action. From that point the game would turn in a dramatic fashion, the lead would be cut to 15-11 after one quarter and by the midpoint of the second the Tigers would have their first lead on their way to a run that would give them a 28-20 advantage at the half. Senior Tiger 6’1 PG Madison Layden netted 13 points, half of her game high 26, in the first half. The Northwestern barrage would continue in the second half with the Tigers outscoring the Greyhounds 38-21 in the second half on their way to an impressive 66-41 road win against Carmel. The Miss Basketball candidate duo of Madison Layden, 26 points, and Kendall Bostic, 20 points, combined for 70% of those points, while fellow senior Klair Merrell added 13 of her own. Sophomore sensation Kate Clarke was the only Greyhound in double figures with 16 points. Junior Bridgett Dunn had 5, saddled with foul trouble, fouling out just eleven seconds into the fourth quarter. The experience of the Northwestern seniors showed throughout the contest with their execution on both ends of the floor. The Tigers may not be as deep as some, though sophomores Leah Carter and Audrey Koetter provided quality minutes, they are as experienced and talented as any team in the state, provide the top 1-2 punch in Layden & Bostic, and play with as a high of an IQ as any team you will find. Even though Northwestern has moved up to 4A this season a 3-peat is definitely within reach for the Tigers

Northwestern Tigers will host Tipton in a conference game on Tuesday, while Carmel will host Zionsville Tuesday.
