2015 Northeast All-Star game Highlights

The 2nd Annual Northeast All-Star Clash hosted at Saint Francis by Scouting Indiana featured several of the top prospects from the Fort Wayne area. Four games broken into graduating class gave a glimpse of the area talent in each class. Following are a few highlights of the 2018,2017, and 2016 games.

The opening game pitted 24 rising stars of the 2018 freshman class.  The top rated player in this contest 5’11 W/F Ellen Ross, FW Bishop Dwenger did not disappoint. Ross used the combination of her skill set along with her physical play and solid strong frame to set herself apart from the field and led her team to a OT win.  5’6 PG Corie Jones, Carroll, displayed her skills at the point with her pose, ball control and ability to setup teammates while not letting us forget she can shoot the rock as well. Perhaps, the surprise standout of the game was 5’10 F Breanna Douglas, Northop, who led the winners in scoring. Douglas is a long, athletic forward who finished on her chances around the basket and showed some flashes with the ball in the open court. PG Sharmari Tyson, Wayne, made the circus shot to force OT before her team fell but that wasn’t her only shining moment. The 5’2 guard showed off her quickness on both ends and her ability to setup teammates with her good instincts. 5’11 post Tancie Chapman, South Side, was able to use her size and physical play effectively around the basket to have a good afternoon. Finally, two more Carroll frosh had notable performances in 5’9 SG Julia Miller and 5’10 wing Laney Steckler.

The 2017 game was highlighted by the winner’s duo of 5’11 W Dayton Groninger, Warsaw, and 5’9 CG Abbie Heischman, Leo. Groninger a versatile wing that scored in multiple ways from threes, posting, to leading the transition game, shined throughout the contest.  The 5’9 Heischman showcased her shooting ability while playing with great instinct and IQ for the game. 5’10 forward Kyla Covington, Snider, was active around the basket and had a productive afternoon for winners as well. Most times its difficult to standout without volume shots in an All-Star event but Kaylie Warble, West Noble, did just that. The 6’1 post dominated the glass throughout the game, impressing with her agility, soft hands, and a nose for the ball. Two of the state’s top 2017s Aly Reiff, Whitko, and Shania Kelly, Concordia, led the Gray squad. The 5’11 Reiff displayed her aggressiveness and instincts on both ends while Kelly showcased her physical hard nose play and athleticism around the basket.

The 2016 Junior game included several notable players on our current watchlist. The Gray squad featured two of our top 30 2016 prospects in 5’10 G/W Shayla Sutorius, Wayne and 6’2 post M.McCoy, Westview. Sutorius is a long athletic wing with a smooth flowing offensive game. McCoy a post with a nice strong frame, to go with soft hands, that can play with her back to the basketball or is comfortable with the ball in her hands faced up on the wing or elbow.  5’11 wing Chandler Jones, East Noble, had a good showing for the Grey squad as well. The Blue squad featured a trio of accomplished 2016s which included 5’9 G/W Taya Andrews , Bishop Dwenger, 5’8 G Emma Wolfe, Bishop Luers, and 5’10 G Shae Rhonehouse, Fremont.
